The International Garden

The International Garden at the Dawes Arboretum, Heath Ohio…
The International Garden will be located just east of the existing Japanese Garden and will celebrate plants that have been collected from all over the world.  These plants will be organized for display in the garden by their region of origin.

Tall, medium and short prairies, picnic areas, and a naturalized stream will provide enjoyable opportunities for strolls and picnics.  The Garden is also strategically connected to the Perimeter Trail, and allows users to enter the garden for a change of pace, or a few moments of respite in the seating areas.

The existing drainage stream had been channelized in the past, but had consistent water flow from the nearby pond in the Japanese Garden.  This presented an opportunity to naturalize the stream by reshaping it, accentuating it with boulders, and restoring it to a more natural pre-disturbed state.

The Rotary is exploring funding options for the main seating area. This area boasts paver walking surfaces, seat walls, trellis with swinging benches, and Rotary Peace Poles.

This garden is currently in the funding stage, if you would like to help, contact the Dawes Arboretum

More images and descriptions of this awesome collection of gardens is coming soon!  Hopefully we will have construction progress photos soon!
